Pride/Swell+

Pride/Swell + (2022-2023) is a SSHRC New Frontiers in Research funded project which builds on Pride/Swell (2020-2021) and brings together methods and approaches that were first developed to address to the constraints of the pandemic by engaging in mail-based participatory visual research and takes an intergenerational focus, working with 2SLGBTQ+ elders and youth. We seek to highlight how the production, sharing, and archiving of 2SLGBTQ+ youth- and elder-produced art acts as a form of activist intervention and solidarity building.

We began the project in August 2022 by meeting together in Fredericton, New Brunswick (as well as simultaneously online) to co-create artworks in response to our experiences as 2SLGBTQ+ elders and youth. For six months, we will be sending themed packages of art supplies and prompts to participants' homes, so that we might build solidarities and connections across generations and physical spaces. The project will culminate with an in person (and digital) archiving workshop in Fredericton and online in February 2023 where we build a traveling exhibition and participatory archive out of our artpieces.
